Here is a photograph from the top of Lydeard Hill in the Quantocks, Somerset, where I walked last weekend. It was a bright day but pretty misty and murky when looking into the distance.

The soft green and purple patchwork colours from the landscape made an interesting - and quite moody - backdrop and I like the way the trees have bent in one direction against the prevailing wind.

Insomnia strikes even with the sound of the ocean doing it’s best to lull you to sleep…This morning it struck at 3.00 am…

Still dark….. and going to be for 2 and a 1/2 hours, so I took my time getting dressed, managing to drag each leg of my shorts into a 15 second process and a further 10 seconds to pick up the camera….I was still on the beach with 2 hours 29 minutes and a few random seconds to go before dawn..

I usually refer to this picture as the house on stilts even though I'm not absolutely certain that it is, or ever was, anyone's residence.  I just think it's an awfully interesting structure and I like to imagine that someone enjoys living in it.  One day soon I'll go back to take more pictures of my "stilted house" and when I go I'll try to learn more about it.

Luther Brigman is an artist from Canada. He has been drawing most of his life. His artworks are mostly wildlife, native art. He also does portraits, carving, painting, etc. He has been mostly self taught, has been influenced by observing others, and learning things from different people in his life, mostly his father. He prefers to use photographs as a reference for his pieces, for the reason that, light and color change every second, and a photo is the only way to capture all the true colors and lighting of an image.

While doing research for a story set in Kiev (Kyive), Ukraine, I came across the photograph of this amazing tree. Since I love seeing what Photoshop filters can do to enhance photographs, I tried them on this wonderful old tree.

“Grünewald’s Oak Age: 800-900 years, named after the famous painter Matthias Grünewald who used to draw fantasy trees.”
