This weeks “Artist in Residence: Giotto di Bondone
(1266/7 – January 8, 1337) Florence, Italy
Known simply as Giotto, he was an Italian painter as well as an architect. Considered the first great artist of the Italian Renaissance, from the late Late Middle Ages. His masterwork is a fresco cycle depicting the life of the Virgin Mary and Chris. Regarded as a masterpiece of the Early Renaissance period, it was completed around 1305, and is located in the Scrovegni Chapel also called the Arena Chapel; Padua, Italy.
